Genesee Community College is pleased to announce recent May 2010 graduate Nathan Popham, has been awarded a New York State Transfer and Articulation Association (NYSTAA) scholarship. The NYSTAA awards only four $1000 scholarships to students enrolled in associate degree granting institutions. Nathan was selected from 59 applicants from 33 colleges.
Nathan was a Computer Information Systems major while he was enrolled at Genesee, where he earned a 4.0 grade point average. He was a participant in the National Science Foundation supported CSEMS program designed to support talented students interested in pursuing degrees in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics and related fields. Nathan was also a Technology Opportunity Pathway (TOP) scholar and is a member of the Civil Air Patrol-US Air Force Auxiliary.
“I really enjoyed my time at Genesee,” Nathan said. “I especially liked the higher level mathematics classes and programming classes with Mr. Habermas. I look forward to studying Computer Science because it will open me up to many different and challenging careers.”
Nathan, 18, is a resident of Perry, NY where he was homeschooled before attending Genesee. He is the son of Jack and Mary Ann Popham and the brother to Dan, Sadie and Megan Popham. Nathan plans on transferring to the Rochester Institute of Technology where he will study Computer Science.
