The Men’s Lacrosse program at Genesee is looking to make many accomplishments in their upcoming 2010 spring season. The team is coming off a solid fall season and has high hopes of competing to be one of the top teams in Region III.
The team is returning several key players from last year’s team that will be the core as the team moves forward. These players include last seasons’ leading scorer, Loyld Chrysler (Lewiston, NY) and scoring threat, Max Muscato (Williamsville, NY). Chrysler scored 39 goals and had 21 assists in his freshman season, compiling 68 total points while Muscato contributed 16 goals, 12 assists and 28 total points. Sophomores Zach Fay (Batavia, NY) and Andy Cowan (Batavia, NY) will also look to add to the team’s scoring production with their agility and quickness on the field. The defense will be led by returners Dan Walczak (Tonawanda, NY), Zach Metzger (Clarence, NY), and goalie Mike Quinlan (Buffalo, NY). All three of these players add the experience and leadership needed to keep the ball out of the net.
The Cougars have also gained new and exciting talent for this season; Mike Nelson (Orem, UT) and Joe Muoio (Batavia, NY) will be counted on to provide strength on the offensive end, while JD Skura (Clarence, NY), Justin Peterson (Batavia, NY), and Zach Smith (Rochester, NY) will add depth to the defensive line-up. Freshmen Andy Telban (East Aurora, NY) and Scott Cizenski (Bishop Luden, NY) will be looked upon to control the possession and keep the tempo of the game.
The Genesee coaching staff expects to see extraordinary play and competitiveness from the team this season. The team plans to continue improving throughout the year in attempts to compete in the NJCAA Region III playoffs. Along with the outstanding talent that the cougars are looking to have, the team and coaches are also excited to begin the season playing on the newly built turf field.
