Baseball Falls Short In First Few Games

The Cougar baseball team dropped its first three games in Florida and has lost another starter to injury. Shayne Herold went down with a knee injury in the first game and is expected to miss the next two weeks of the season. The team lost its first game to the University of Tampa JV team with a score of 9-8. The team was led by Kevin Hughes who went 2-2 at the plate with one double.

Yesterday, the team dropped two games to division one Chesepeake CC. In game one, the team was limited to five hits and lost 5-3. Shaun Slemko, who pitched well in his first college outing, received the loss.

In game two, the team took a 6-4 lead into the fifth inning but allowed five runs to score on one error and two passed balls. Ron Kleinback took the loss on the mound while teammate Eitan Maoz went 2-3 with a three run homerun.

"We have lost a couple of good players to injury right now, but are not giving ourselves an opportunity to win because of our mistakes." says Coach Sherman. The team drops to 2-5 on the year and plays again today against division one Triton College in a double header.
