Genesee Community College Introduces New Summer Wellness Programs for Area Youth

Scholarships Available for GLOW Area Grade School Students

Genesee Community College will host two summer youth camps focusing on health and wellness. The first is the Genesee Sport and Wellness Experience geared toward middle school aged-students and the second is an Accelerated College Enrollment (ACE) three week, one credit college course. The Genesee Sport and Wellness Experience will offer a scholarship to one student from each GLOW area school to attend the camp at no charge. All of the summer camp experiences take place at the Batavia Campus.

Genesee Sport and Wellness Experience- Grades 6 - 8
This newly developed summer program includes instruction and skill development in the areas of golf, tennis, soccer, and volleyball for two weeks to local middle school students. Education on a variety of wellness topics such as nutrition, fitness, stress management, peer pressure, and drug and substance abuse issues will also be presented and discussed. Students in grades 6, 7 and 8 are invited to attend the program during July 12-23 from 9:00am-3:00pm Monday through Friday. The cost for the Genesee Sport and Wellness Experience is $100 and includes lunch every day and a t-shirt. One student from each GLOW area school will be awarded a scholarship to attend the camp at no cost. Students must be nominated by a faculty, staff member or coach from their school. ACE Program: PED171 Body Conditioning- Grades 9 - 12
This summer experience is geared towards area high school students interested in the areas of physical education and fitness who are looking to earn college credit. Genesee Community College’s Health and Physical Education Department will provide an opportunity for students to use state-of-the-art equipment, a Human Performance Lab, and learn the latest in exercise and fitness techniques and trends. Participants will also benefit from instruction by a certified Strength and Conditioning Coach. Completion of the course will earn students one college credit. This three-week summer course runs from July 6-22 from 9:00am-11:15am, Monday through Thursday. Genesee’s Performing Arts and Fine Arts Experience Summer Experience programs will not be in session this summer due to the anticipated construction of the new art gallery at Genesee Center for the Arts at the Batavia Campus.
