Genesee Community College is pleased to announce Amy (Rigoni) Churchfield has been named Employee of the Month for March. Amy is a Campus Associate at the Dansville Campus Center. When the Dansville Campus was short staffed during the fall semester, Amy stepped up to the plate and single-handedly managed to meet with, advise, and manage the enrollment for almost all of the Dansville students, in addition to assuming many additional administrative responsibilities. She accomplished an amazing amount of work and her “can do” attitude and commitment has helped to generate the enrollment increases at that location in both the fall and the spring semesters.
Amy, originally from Pavilion, NY, has worked at the College for over five years. As a Campus Center associate, her responsibilities include advising students in the areas of college planning, course scheduling, and career planning as well as assisting in managing the Campus Center scheduling and maintaining College procedures. She arranges seminars and conferences for campus and community groups and creates and assists with schedule development of credit courses. She serves as advisor to the student activities and community outreach groups and she also teaches FYE 100: First Year Experience and CEP 102: Health Careers Planning.
Previously to working at the Dansville Campus Center, she was the director of Student Activities at Medaille College in Buffalo from 2001-2004. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Education of Speech and Hearing from Elmira College and a Master’s degree in Student Affairs in Higher Education from Indiana University of Pennsylvania.
“My favorite aspect of the College is working with such a diverse group of students and being a part of their college experience,” Amy said. “I really enjoy meeting with the students to help plan their schedules and see them through from their first class to their last class. I also enjoy seeing those students who had to stop attending classes for awhile and then come back to us to finish their degree.”
Amy now resides in Groveland, NY with her husband Courtney and their two year old son Tyler. She and her husband are expecting their second child in the beginning of April. In her spare time she enjoys spending time with her family and scrapbooking. She is also a life-long Buffalo Bills fan and enjoys the annual football season.

Batavia, NY- Genesee Community College is pleased to announce Christina Bakos has been named Student of the Month for March. Christina has made her mark at Genesee through all of her volunteer work and activities. She is always willing to help wherever and whenever needed, and she does so with a smile on her face. Not only does she belong to numerous committees, including the Student Government Association, the GCCA, and the Fine Arts, but she has made significant contributions to the CEO Club over the past two years as the ‘face” and “voice” of the Club that launched the Scholar’s Apple Cider Syrup product. In addition to all of her work and studies at Genesee, Christina is also active in her church and community.
A resident of Batavia and a 2007 graduate of Elba Central School, Christina is a Business Administration student who was led to Genesee when she wasn’t sure what career path she wanted. “In high school I was unsure of what I wanted my major to be,” Christina noted. “Living so close to a community college that could steer me in the right path seemed like the perfect option.”
After her graduation in May, she plans on attending SUNY Fredonia to dual major in Marketing and Communications. Her dream job would be to be a news anchor on a national television stations such as ABC or CBS. She is currently a work study student in the Marketing Communications office at Genesee where she is anchoring a student video blog project.
Christina has been named Who’s Who Among American Students, awarded a Student Development Series award and a Business and Commerce Series award. She also picked up the responsibility of occasionally donning the College’s cougar mascot costume and has been known to “play it up” at various special events and College functions. She is the daughter of Ben and Mary Bakos and the sister to Ben Bakos, Jr. who is also a student at Genesee.
“My favorite aspect of attending GCC is that the school is small enough to care about the individuals who attend,” Christina said. “If you want to succeed, the College wants you to as well. Staff and faculty are devoted to helping students in need. If a student has a problem, someone at GCC is willing to listen and help. Student success is thriving at GCC and it’s something you can see every day.”
