This past weekend the 2010 baseball team began its toughest scheduled season ever, winning two out of four games. The team began play Saturday afternoon with a 6-1 win over Ancilla Community College of Indiana. In game two, Genesee beat Ohio powerhouse Sinclair Community College 8-2. Mitch Roy had a big day for Genesee going 4-5 on the day and driving in three runs. Greg Rapp got the win in game one while Kevin Hughes got his first win of the year in relief after coming in for Zack Lietten.
On Sunday, the team came out very flat and only managed three hits in their first loss of the year; losing to Ancilla Community College 4-1. In game two, Genesee came out scoring two runs in the first inning against Sinclair Community College but lost in extra innings 7-6.
John Polinious finished the weekend 7-16 at the plate, while Mitch Roy went 5-10 and Mick Daniels went 4-10. The team “had a good weekend, considering it is the first time we have been outside.” Says Coach Sherman. The team did suffer a potential big loss with Ed Kohout leaving game two against Sinclair CC in the fourth inning with a three run lead. Kohout may have a possible season ending injury.
The team will travel to central Florida next Tuesday to begin its eight day spring trip playing 12 games.
