Freshman Leslie Flannery (Newark, NY) improved her 1,000 yard freestyle record on Wednesday in a dual meet against Monroe Community College, breaking her previous record by nearly eight seconds. Monroe won the meet, defeating the women 99-59 and the men 118-47. Additionally, Flannery took first place in the 500 yd freestyle (5:54.74), taking second in the event was sophomore Katelin Adamczak (6:10.43) and freshman Makayla Bidell (Tonawanda, NY) took fourth in the event (6:16.25).
Sophomore Stephanie Mott (Oakfield, NY) had a first place finish in the 200 yd freestyle (2:18.74) and a second place finish in the 100 yd freestyle (1:05.25). Sophomores Claire Vanderberg (Batavia, NY) and Adamczak took second and third in the 100 yd breaststroke (1:17.49 and 1:23.86); Vanderberg also took second in the 200 individual medley (2:32.59). The 200 yd free relay team of Flannery, Bidell, Mott, and Vanderberg took first place with a time of 1:54.36.
On the men’s side freshman Adam Seweryniak (Batavia, NY) had a pair of second place finishes in the 50 yd free with a time of 23.59 seconds, and the 100 yd freestyle with a time of 53.22 seconds; while sophomore Dustin Shepard (Castile, NY) took fourth and third in the same events. Taking second in the 500 yd freestyle was freshman Eric Kowalik (Akron, NY) with a season best time of 5:37.17. Sophomore Doug Nagowski (Alden, NY) and freshmen Justin Perry (Batavia, NY) and Josh Kelkenberg (Oakfield, NY) took second, third, and fourth in the 100 yd breaststroke with times of 1:15.56, 1:19.33, 1:29.44 respectfully.
Genesee competes this Saturday in the 11th Annual GCC Winter Classic/Last Chance meet at 1 pm.
