The Genesee Community College Women’s Swimming & Diving team took second place out seven at the Erie Community College Invitational. Meanwhile the men finished fourth at the meet. Monroe Community College took top honors on both sides.
Freshman Leslie Flannery (Newark, NY) had two first place finishes in the 1,650 yard freestyle and the 500 yd free. Sophomore Claire Vanderberg (Batavia, NY) had a pair of third place finishes in 100 yd free, and the 200 yd breaststroke. Fellow sophomore Katelin Adamczak (Dunkirk, NY) finished right behind Vanderberg taking fourth in the 200 breaststroke. Additionally, Adamczak had a pair of fifth place finishes in the 400 yd individual medley and the 500 yd. free. Freshman Makayla Bidell (Tonawanda, NY) took second place in the 200 yd. butterfly and fifth place in the 200 yd. free, taking sixth place in the 200 yd free was sophomore Stephanie Mott (Oakfield, NY). The women also had a pair of second place finishes in the 400 medley relay (Flannery, Adamczak, Bidell, Vanderberg) and the 800 free relays (Flannery, Bidell, Mott, Vanderberg).
Freshman Eric Kowalik (Akron, NY) had two second place finishes in the 1,650 yd and 500 yd free events, while sophomore Dustin Shepard (Castile, NY) had a third place finish in the 50 yd. freestyle. Sophomore Doug Nagowski (Alden, NY) teamed up with freshmen Justin Perry (Batavia, NY) and Josh Kelkenberg (Oakfield, NY) to take fifth, seventh and eleventh in the 200 yd breaststroke. The 800 freestyle relay of Kowalik, Kelkenberg, Nagowski, and Shepard took fourth place.
The swimming & diving teams return to action Wednesday in a dual meet against Monroe Community College at 6pm at GCC.
