The Genesee Community College (GCC) Swimming & Diving teams competed in the Erie Community College (ECC) 1st Annual December Long Course Invitational. The meet offered the teams their only opportunity to compete in the long course meter events this season (as they normally compete in short course yards). In addition to GCC and host ECC, Jamestown Community College (JCC) also competed in the meet. Overall team scores saw ECC taking first place for both the men and women (229 points and 306 points); GCC took second place with 206 and 226 points, and JCC rounded out the competition with 109 and 108 points.
First place performances were garnered by Adam Seweryniak (Batavia, NY), who took two first place finishes in the 50 meter freestyle and 100 meter backstroke with times of 26.50 and 1:16.42 respectively. Sewernyniak was joined by freshman teammates Justin Perry (Batavia, NY), Eric Kowalik (Akron, NY), and sophomore Dustin Shepard (Castile, NY), for two first place relay finishes in the 200 meter medley relay and the 400 meter freestyle relay (2:19.38 and 4:37.87). Kowalik joined Seweryniak with two first place finishes in the 800 meter freestyle and the 400 meter freestyle (11:09.62 and 4:37.87). Shepard took first place in the 100 freestyle (1:04.48), and second place in the 200 meter freestyle (2:35.03). Perry took third in the 100 meter breaststroke (1:35.21) and sixth place 50 meter freestyle (34.23).
On the women’s side, freshman Leslie Flannery (Newark, NY) took four second place finishes. Individually, Flannery competed in the 800 meter freestyle (11:15.36) and the 400 meter freestyle (5:44.31). Flannery also joined fellow freshman Makayla Bidell (Tonawanda, NY) and sophomores Katelin Adamczak (Dunkirk, NY) and Stephanie Mott (Oakfield, NY) in the 200 medley relay and 400 freestyle relay to second place finishes (2:35.10 and 5:10.77). Adamczak had a first place finish in the 200 meter individual medley (3:11.37) and a third place finish in the 100 meter breaststroke (1:33.63). Mott also had two second place finishes in the 200 meter freestyle (2:54.39) and 100 meter freestyle (1:20.14). Combining for a another pair of second place finishes, Bidell took second in the 50 meter freestyle (32.50), and 100 meter backstroke (1:30.23).
The Swimming & Diving team will return to competition after the holidays with a tri-meet at Jamestown with Erie on January 12, 2010.
