Background:

The first December graduation class of nursing students will be recognized in a ceremony on Friday, December 18 in the Stuart Steiner Theatre at the Batavia Campus of Genesee Community College. This is the first time there will be two classes of Nursing graduates, one in December and one in May, 2010. Genesee is keeping up with the growing need for nurses with a decision in 2008, to admit students into the Nursing program in both the fall and spring semesters to generate more nursing graduates each year.

Nursing student Billie Amatore will welcome the graduates and nursing student Mylessia Candie will explain the significance of the symbolic nursing lamp. Dr. Eunice Bellinger, executive vice president for Academic Affairs, will also congratulate the new graduates. During the ceremony, graduates will receive their nursing pins from the faculty. There will also be three faculty awards presented to graduating students. The three awards are General Excellence Award, Clinical Proficiency Award, and Nursing Leadership Award. Awardees will not be announced until the recognition ceremony.
