While bringing Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra to Batavia is probably the biggest “news” for this holiday season, many other new opportunities will also be part of Genesee Community College Foundation’s annual Encore celebration. Pegged “Embracing the Holiday Spirit,” the annual holiday tradition on Wednesday, December 9, 2009 will also feature:
•The ‘Wine and Cheese Prelude Reception’ at 5:00 PM in the Lobby of the Stuart Steiner Theatre. The Prelude Reception kicks off the holiday event with special gathering and a warm Genesee Community College welcome to Paul Ferington, the conductor of the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra. The hour-long special reception is open to guests who purchase the Conductor’s Circle and Golden Baton Society tickets.
•‘Encore Energico Chance’ is a unique drawing for guests to win a special opportunity to conduct the BPO as they play one holiday song that evening. The alternative prize is an Encore Concerto gift basket filled with all kinds of great surprises.Tickets for the drawing are $50 per ticket or $100 for three tickets and are only being sold before the event. The drawing for the winner of the Guest Conductorship and Encore Concerto gift basket will be made at 7:30PM in the Forum during the Gala Reception Grandioso.
•A new sensational menu of delicious hot and cold, sweet and saté food selections will be featured at the Gala Reception Gandioso from 6:00 to 7:30 PM. The new cuisine featuring an array of chefs preparing delicious dishes to order will be accompanied by live music from Derek Reiss and his “Dizzy-Jazz with a Spin” quartet. The evening winds down with Delectable Finale giving guests delicious desserts and hot coffee or tea after the BPO concert at 9:30 PM.
Proceeds from Encore are dedicated to the Genesee Community College Foundation and specifically support student scholarships. Last year, Genesee Community College Foundation awarded 464 scholarships to worthy and deserving students, a collective amount of $ 265,488. Encore is the Foundation’s most important scholarship fund raising event. The evening is black tie optional.
