Genesee Community College's Lima Campus Center Hosts Fall Field Day

What better way to celebrate the season and the fall foliage, than with Genesee Community College’s Fall Field Day at the brand new Lima Campus Center? Genesee ‘s Lima Campus will host a Fall Field Day on Saturday, November 14, 2009 from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM. The event will offer a cornucopia of family friendly activities and is open all members of the surrounding communities.

The Fall Field Day will feature campus center tours and demonstrations in the new classrooms, including the new science lab and “Smart” classroom displays, as well as hands-on projects for young and old. An assortment of crafts and homespun activities, family-friendly games and free food will also fill the halls of the new center. Refreshments include popcorn; free hot dogs and treats while supplies last; and ice cream samples from Upstate Milk. Attendees will also have the chance to win Genesee door prizes.

General Motor’s Fuel Cell Activities Research Center, located in Honeoye Falls, NY, will be on hand to provide a “Ride and Drive” demonstration of a new Chevrolet Equinox hydrogen fuel cell vehicle. Livingston County Tourism will provide information on how to have your own ‘field day’ in Livingston County, as well as awarding two Livingston County Lunch packages. The local fire department will also make a special appearance.

The event will feature a movie preview in anticipation of the campus center’s upcoming “GCC Night at the Movies” series scheduled to begin in November and run through spring of 2010. Visitors can enjoy an exhibition of original pastel paintings by local artist, Gloria Betlem. Her exhibit, “The Birds” will be on display during the Fall Field Day and will continue throughout November.

“Although the center has been open for classes since mid-September, this is Genesee’s way of saying hello and welcoming to our friends and neighbors,” Monica Mattioli, associate dean of the Lima Campus Center said. “We hope that community residents will come out to see the center and bring their families for food, fun and friends.”

A formal Grand Opening Celebration took place at the Lima Campus Center on Tuesday, October 13.
An All-Campus Evening Open House is scheduled at the Lima Campus Center on Wednesday December 2 at 6:00 PM. Representatives from the Lima Campus Center, as well as the main campus in Batavia, will be on hand to answer questions about admissions, financial aid and give tours of the new center.

The Lima Campus Center is located at 7285 Gale Road Lima, NY 14485 just 1 mile north of Lima on Route 15A. Both events are open to the community and admission is free.
