Genesee Community College has been welcomed with open arms at the “crossroads of Western New York” with the fall semester underway at the new Lima Campus Center. The official Grand Opening Celebration of the Lima Campus Center will take place on Tuesday, October 13, 2009 at 11:30AM. Community and business leaders from Lima and the surrounding area, representatives from Genesee Community College and site developers will gather for a light luncheon to celebrate the occasion. The Genesee Community College system consists of a total of seven locations, including the main campus in Batavia and six additional campus centers, with the Lima Campus Center being the newest location. The celebration will feature demonstrations of “smart” classroom technology, as well as remarks from community and academic leaders, and tours of the facility.
The Lima Campus Center, located 2 miles north of Lima on Route 15A at Gale Road, replaces the campus center formerly located in Lakeville. Classes began at the center on Monday, September 21 with strong enrollment. Students and staff are now well into the busy fall semester.
“We’re delighted to welcome our new neighbors and local supporters at the Campus Center,” Monica Mattioli, associate dean of the Lima Campus Center said. “Now that the fall semester is progressing, we’re eager to showcase the technology and services that are helping to make the lives and careers of our students a success. The presence of higher education in a community is a significant factor in attracting economic development opportunities. ”
The Lima Campus Center is approximately 9,000 square feet and contains a multi-disciplinary science lab. The center also houses technology-equipped classrooms, a student computer lab and a Wi-Fi equipped student lounge. The facility is electronically linked to the College library and other College services. A wide range of courses are offered at the Lima Center, and students are able to obtain academic advising, financial aid assistance, and other services from the Lima Campus Center staff.
The new Lima Campus Center advances one of Genesee Community College’s priorities, specifically expanding access to educational services for residents of the GLOW region. With the relocation of the Lakeville Center to Lima, the new center is positioned at the intersection of Livingston, Monroe and Ontario Counties and is easily accessible to all residents across Northern Livingston County. Genesee’s other campuses are located in Albion, Arcade, Batavia, Dansville, Medina and Warsaw.
Community members are asked to save the date for a Lima Campus Center ‘Field Day.’ This weekend event will welcome all members of the community to the center on Saturday, November 14, 2009 and will feature an assortment of family-friendly activities. The event will be open to the public and will follow a harvest-time theme, which will appeal to all ages.
Reservations for the Grand Opening Celebration luncheon are required by contacting Patty Hume in Genesee Community College’s Development and External Affairs office at 585-343-0055 ext. 6234 or email: PAHume@genesee.edu.
