Just in time for Labor Day celebrations, Genesee Community College will honor staff members who played a key role in making the College a ‘Great College to Work For.’ A special cake-cutting ceremony for the Buildings and Grounds and Public Safety staff will take place on September 8, 2009 at 12:00 PM at the Batavia campus. Last month, Genesee was named one of the ‘Great Colleges to Work For’ by The Chronicle of Higher Education, the premiere higher education publication and website in the United States.
Genesee was the only community college in the State University of New York to be included in the “Great Colleges to Work For” list. The College scored exceptionally high in the quality of facilities, and the safety and security of the campus environment. For colleges recognized in this category, it was noted that the appearance of the campus was pleasing, facilities adequately met needs, and the institution proactively takes steps to provide a safe and secure environment.
In appreciation for the superior jobs these staff members regularly perform, the College will honor these employees with a cake-cutting reception. Because of the 24 hour nature of the Buildings and Grounds and Public Safety crews, a second cake will also be provided for staff members working the second, evening shift.
“College employees as a whole, know how great our Buildings and Grounds and Public Safety staff are,” Stuart Steiner, president of Genesee said. “However it is quite an honor for our employees to be recognized by those outside of the College community.”
The cake-cutting reception will take place on Wednesday, September 8, 2009 at 12:00 PM in the Staff and Faculty Lounge at the Batavia campus. Photos of the event will be available by calling Donna Rae Sutherland, associate director of Marketing Communications, at 585-343-0055 x6616.
