The Women’s Volleyball team finished a very successful rebuilding year in November 2008. Coach Majeski also had a successful feat as he surpassed the 800 win mark on September 27th and became the first coach in Genesee history to compile that many wins. Over the past 21 years Coach Majeski has received the Region III Coach of the Year Award eleven times and has been named the District Coach of the Year twelve times.
The 2008 Lady Cougars volleyball team went on to win the Region III Division II title again this year and just missed another shot at returning to the national tournament for the 11th straight season. The team lost a grueling five set match to the Community College of Rhode Island where in the final match the score ended 16-14. The team finished with an overall record of 21-25 with very close finishes against many teams. Coach Majeski was proud of the team’s accomplishments throughout the year as they grew and matured into a well rounded team.
The team was led by sophomores Jenn Turner and Cynthia Zayas. Turner was named Region III Division II Player of the year, 1st team All-Region and 1st team All-Conference. Turner was a dominant force all season and led the Lady Cougars to some key wins. Zayas, the teams setter, was named 1st Team All-Region and 2nd Team All-Conference. Other award winners were freshmen Shyla Travis and Brandy Christopher both of which were named 1st Team All-Region and 2nd Team All-Conference.
The team is looking to build on the development of the current players as well as bring in some top notch athletes for next season. Coach Majeski is looking towards the future with positivity that he will be back at that national tournament next year!
