Arcade Campus Center Celebrates Summer on Four Wheels with Fast Friends

Teacher Feature Event at Holland NASCAR Motorsports Complex
Supporters of Genesee Community College Arcade Campus Center and motorsport aficionados are joining forces and heading to the Holland International Speedway - NASCAR Motorsports Complex on Saturday, May 30 for a celebration of summer.

Alongside with the Teacher Feature event that begins at 5:15PM, will be Genesee’s Arcade Campus Center “pit crew” including Dr. Deborah DiNoto, Associate Dean, as well as the staff, faculty, friends, students and alumni. This first-time event promises to be fun for all with academia providing a new “groove” for motor cross experts, and the motor cross pros showing the College crew the difference between “down force” and “drag.”

“There’s no doubt that some of us will be a little out of our element, but that’s what education is all about,” Dr. DiNoto said. “We have a lot of students and faculty who spend quite a bit of time during the summer months at the races, and we are ready to learn what it’s all about. We are also ready to show motor cross visitors the many opportunities available at GCC this summer and beyond!”

With a table exhibiting all kind of academic information on how to begin a wide range of careers, the Campus Center staff will inform visitors about the tuition-free courses offered this summer, including:
  • WIRED Emerging Entrepreneurship program offering Business 111 at Arcade Campus Center starting June 29th for 5 weeks. (Mondays and Wednesdays from 5:30 – 9:15 PM)
  • Genesee Promise Plus for June 2009 High School Graduates from Genesee, Livingston, Orleans and Wyoming counties are eligible for two tuition-free classes this summer. Go to http://www.genesee.edu/gcc/promise/ for complete information.
“We know only too well how difficult these economic times are, and we are ready to help people transition to a new career,” Dr. DiNoto explained. “Being laid off, down-sized, or pushed into part-time work can be devastating – but it can also be a golden opportunity to set up a new “roll cage” or become more “aerodynamic” – to borrow the race car driver’s lingo.”

The Arcade Campus Center will have plenty of information and assistance to explore Genesee’s 60 academic degree and certificate programs and learn about the easy, online application process, as well as many financial aid and scholarship options.
