Two Summertime Arts Programs at Genesee Community College Offer Enriched Arts Experience for Area Youth

Genesee Community College and Genesee Center for the Arts in Batavia continue a long-term commitment to the arts with the 4th annual Performing Arts Experience at Genesee, as well as a new program dedicated to the fine arts entitled, Summer Studio Fine Arts Workshop. The two programs have completely different schedules, instructors, and fees, but share a similar objective of providing area youth with a quality, yet fun experience exploring the arts.

The three-week Performing Arts Experience at Genesee theatre workshop is targeted for children and young adults ages 8-16, and runs from July 6-July 25, 2009 (Monday through Friday) from 10:00AM-3:00PM. The program concludes with two live performances of the musical You’re A Good Man, Charlie Brown (see calendar schedule below), featuring all the participants on stage or behind the scenes in the state-of-the-art Stuart Steiner Theatre.

The Performing Arts Experience at Genesee introduces the fundamentals of theatre in an engaging way for children and young adults fascinated by the stage and live performance. Highlights of the program include acting, dance, voice, movement, scene study and audition techniques, in addition to the opportunity to work behind the scenes in set construction, lighting and stage crew.

“It is a confidence-building program, providing every day, hands-on encounters that are sure to be fun and very fulfilling,” Maryanne Arena, director of Fine and Performing Arts Department said. Light snacks and refreshment will be provided, though participants must provide their own lunch. Additional child care services will be available each day (from 9:00AM-10:00AM) and at the end of each session (from 3:00PM-4:00PM). The fee for this three-week theatre workshop is $250.00.
