Two Genesee Students Recognized on State and National Levels

Genesee Community College is proud to announce two students have been recognized academically on the state and national levels. Jennifer Bryant of Batavia was named a Gold Scholar on the 2009 Coca-Cola All-State Academic Team. Jennifer, along with South Alabama native, Kathryn Scarborough was also recognized by the New York State chapter of Phi Theta Kappa honor society. Both students also recently received a SUNY Chancellor’s Award for Student Excellence (see related story, Three Genesee Students Honored for SUNY Excellence).

The Coca-Cola All-State Academic Team is a national scholarship that recognizes outstanding community college students who are dedicated to academics and their communities. Sponsored by the Coca-Cola Foundation, Jennifer was awarded a $1500 scholarship toward her tuition at Genesee. She was one of 50 students throughout the entire United States that were awarded this honor. Jennifer is a Paralegal Studies major and plans on continuing her education in International Relations or Political Science, and someday attend law school. Jennifer was featured in the April 6 edition of USA Today.

Jennifer, along with Kathryn Scarborough, a Math/Science major, were recognized at the fifteenth annual Phi Theta Kappa All-New York Academic Awards luncheon on April 7, 2009. The awards ceremony took place at the Empire State Plaza Convention Center in Albany, NY. Awardees were recognized based on scholarly achievement and outstanding community service in community, technical and junior colleges. Jennifer Bryant was named to the First Team and Kathryn Scarborough was named to the Third Team. Jennifer and Kathryn were two of 51 students recognized across New York State.
