Lanes Still Available in Genesee's Medina Campus Bowling Classes

Bowling Added to List of Non-Traditional Phys-Ed Classes
Physical Education classes at Genesee Community College are not just the typical basketball, soccer or volleyball courses. Physical Education is about providing students with the skills and knowledge to make participation in physical activity a long-term lifestyle choice. As part of this objective, non-traditional physical education courses, such as bowling, have been added to many of the seven local campuses. The Medina Campus Center, located at 11470 Maple Ridge Road, is offering for the first time, two one-credit bowling courses in the spring 2009 semester. PED146: Beginning Bowling has already began, however there are still openings in the PED147: Intermediate Bowling class which starts March 23 and runs through May 16.

The Beginning Bowling class focuses on bowling skills development for the inexperienced bowler, while the Intermediate Bowling class focuses on advanced bowling skills development and techniques for the experienced participant. It also emphasizes strategies of competitive bowling. There are fees associated with each class, and the Intermediate Bowling class requires the Beginning Bowling course or a waiver from the instructor. Evening bowling league participants are welcomed to take the Intermediate Bowling class with approval from the instructor. The Intermediate Bowling course is offered Tuesdays and Thursdays from 12:40 pm – 2:00 pm at the Medina Bowling Lanes, 11249 Maple Ridge Road, Medina.

Adding to the list of lifestyle physical education courses offered at Genesee are Life Guarding, Fitness Swimming, Scuba Diving, Hydro-Aerobics, Karate, Jazz and Tap Dance, Badminton, and Golf. These courses range from one to three college credits per course. Not all courses are offered each semester. The summer 2009 semester is offering physical education classes at the Batavia, Medina, and Lakeville campuses, as well as through on-line Distance Learning.
