Save the Date for Experience Genesee 2009

A Night of Free ‘Funshops’ and All-Ages Open House
Residents of all ages and interests should save the date for the second annual “Experience Genesee,” scheduled for March 26, 2009 from 5:00 to 8:30 p.m. at Genesee Community College’s Batavia Campus. Experience Genesee is not only an evening of “funshops” or a series of mini-workshops featuring fascinating aspects of science, art, technology, fitness and entertainment throughout the Main Campus, but the event is also an all-ages Open House—where anyone interested in becoming a full- or part-time student can explore their many options.

Experience Genesee features an array of workshops on topics of interest for the whole family, as well as active mini-clinics and competitions with prizes in the gym, free refreshments and a CoolKids ‘Bubble Man’ performance at 6:30 p.m. From dynamic travel tips, physics and astronomy, to throwing a pot on the pottery wheel, creating a new business, fingerprinting and forensics—Experience Genesee has something for everyone. Visitors can also enjoy a Batavia Brass Society performance, or step into the virtual world of avatars and Second Life.

“This is a wonderful opportunity for community members of all ages, as well as prospective students, to enjoy a free night out at Genesee,” said Anne M. Garlock, former member and chairman of Genesee’s Board of Trustees, and a founding member of the Experience Genesee Planning Committee. “The College has so much to offer. Experience Genesee is a fun way to showcase the multitude of talents and services available to the community.”

The all-ages Open House at Experience Genesee provides prospective students with the full introduction to the Admissions process, exploring Financial Aid options, and touring the College from the Student Union to the new science and Nursing Labs, and the state-of-the-art Library. In addition, College Village, Genesee’s student housing complex, will be open for tours and information sessions.

Experience Genesee is free and open to the public. For further information, please visit, and save Thursday, March 26, 2009 at 5:00 p.m. for Experience Genesee.
