Genesee's Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society Inducts 49 New Members

The forty-seventh induction ceremony for Phi Theta Kappa, Alpha Iota Upsilon Chapter, inducted 49 new members at Genesee Community College on Friday, December 5. Established in 1918, Phi Theta Kappa (PTK) Honor Society serves to recognize and encourage the academic achievement of two-year college students and provide opportunities for individual growth and development through honors, leadership, and service programming.

To be eligible for membership, a student must complete a minimum of 12 hours of Associate degree course work and earn a grade point average of 3.6 or higher. Students must maintain a high academic standing, or a 3.3 GPA, throughout their enrollment in the two-year college.

* In addition to being a member of PTK, this student is also in Genesee’s Accelerated College Enrollment Program (ACE). Through a partnership between Genesee and numerous local high schools, students such as these have the opportunity to enroll in college level courses, earn college credit, and be recognized with collegiate honors while they are still in high school.

Genesee Community College offers 60 academic programs and certificates, including new Biotechnology and Environmental Studies. Genesee is accessible through seven campus locations throughout Western, NY as well as through online classes in the Distance Learning program. College housing is available at College Village, just a three minute walk from the Batavia Campus. With small class sizes yet state-of-the-art technology both inside and out of the classroom, Genesee Community College is known for being ‘high-tech’ and ‘high-touch’.
