Job Search Workshops Offered as Part of Genesee's Warsaw Campus Center Open House

Searching for a job can be difficult if you don’t have the resources to put your best foot forward. Genesee Community College’s Warsaw Campus Center is offering a Job Search Workshop on Wednesday December 10th to help prepare students, as well as community members, to take the first steps towards their employment future. The workshops will be part of the Warsaw Campus Center’s Open House which will begin at 6:00 p.m. Workshops will be offered throughout the evening from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. in room #308. Participants are asked to register in advance for the workshops, by Monday, December 8th.

The evening will start off with a walk-in workshop located in the Campus Center Office, “Choosing and Funding Continuing Education” presented by Cheri Smith, Outreach Specialist from the Adult Educational Opportunity Center (AEOC) in Warsaw, and will run until 8:00 p.m. From 4:30 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. Jeanne Ianita, Business Services Representative from the New York State Department of Labor, will present “Job Search from the Employer’s Perspective.” Career Program Coordinator at the Career and Transfer Center at Genesee Community College, John McGowan, will present “Resume and Cover Letter Writing Techniques” as well as “Interviewing Skills and Establishing a Credential File” from 5:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. From 6:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., Mr. McGowan will present “Job Search Resources” and the evening will conclude with a presentation at 7:00 p.m. from Marie Giardino, Director of AEOC in Warsaw, entitled “Getting the Aid That You Need for School.”

“By offering these workshops to students and community members, we take an active approach in helping the public gain job seeking skills for now and the future,” said John McGowan. “This is not just an opportunity for students entering college, but for community members who may want to change career paths or start an education that they could never start before.”

The event is free, open to all community members, and will be held at the Warsaw Campus Center of Genesee Community College, located at 115 Linwood Avenue Warsaw. Refreshments will be provided.
