Softball Finishes Season at Region III Tournament

The Lady Cougars traveled to Corning CC this weekend and dropped their last two games. In their first game on Friday May 9, 2008, Genesee lost to Monroe CC, 0-6. During their second game later that day, the Lady Cougars fought hard for eleven innings, but came up one run short. The host team, Corning CC, beat them in the eleventh inning, 5-4.

Playing well for the Lady Cougars was Julie Joyce (Pembroke, NY) and Kim Proper (Letchworth, NY). Joyce was named to the All-Tournament team with a consistent effort in the field and a 5 for 8 performance at the plate, four stolen bases, and two sacrifices. Proper had a good performance at the plates going 3 for 7 on the weekend.

Also, receiving regional honors for the team were Laura Olcott (Ticonderoga, NY) and Christina Vega (New York, NY). Both players were named to the Region III second team. Olcott pitched a total of 87 innings and ended the season with a 1.690 ERA, 100 strike-outs, and a record of 8-4. Vega, a team captain and shortstop, finished the season with 23 hits on 84 at bats (0.274 batting average), 13 RBIs, and 20 runs scored.

The softball team wraps up the season with an overall record of 23-17 and Region III record of 19-11.
