Cougar Baseball Starting To Roll

The Genesee Community College baseball team is starting to get things going with its two wins against Jefferson Community College on Thursday April 24, 2008. These wins make the team 5-1 in the past six games. The team has also scored 34 runs in four games showing the explosive run production that it capable of. Coach Sherman notes that his team “is starting to swing the bat more and the team overall is more relaxed even though they know they must finish strong to play in post season.”

In game one, the Cougars scored three runs in the first inning and went on to win 6-5. Nate Parrino (Brockport, NY) led the team going 2-2 with a homerun and three RBI’s. Chad Blackmon (Rochester, NY), Dominick Garcia (Buffalo, NY), and Andre Kinder (Albion, NY) each had two hits apiece for the team. With a 5-0 start and one hit allowed, Kinder had to leave the game with an injury in the fourth inning. Jason Kirkum (Oakfield, NY) replaced Kinder and Brandon Lindsley (Chaffee, NY) received his second win on the year pitching the final two and a third innings allowing no hits.

In the second game, the team scored three runs in the sixth and three more in the seventh to win 7-3. Garcia led the team with a double, triple, and three RBI’s while Colby Miller (Rochester, NY) went 2-3 with a triple. Chris Page (Batavia, NY) pitched six innings allowing five hits and striking out eight for the win. Lindsley got the save for the team.

The team is now 15-9 overall and 8-6 in Region III play. The team travels this Sunday April 27, 2008 to Columbia-Greene Community College in Hudson, NY for a doubleheader starting at 1:00pm.
