The Genesee Math Club celebrates Math Awareness Month in April with its annual poster contest designed to show students that math can be enjoyable and to present mathematics in a positive light. This year’s theme is “Math is Money,” and the awards ceremony is scheduled for Wednesday, April 23 at 6:30 pm in Room T119.
Mary Knappen, one of the Math Club advisors, said recently, “We live in a global economy, and many high-paying jobs require high-level math skills. The United States seems to be falling behind other countries in this area. It is essential to catch students in lower grades to help instill an appreciation for math. Our middle school poster contest for Genesee County is one small way our club can try to help address that problem.”
This year’s entries should focus on the theme “Math is Money,” and judges will consider four categories – overall impact, clarity, mathematical accuracy, and creativity – as they grade the posters.
