Men's Basketball Earns Fifth Seed in Regional Tournament

Rounding out regular season play, the men’s basketball team holds the fifth seed going into regional play. The men will play their sub-regional game at Alfred State, who received the No. 4 seed, at 7pm on Tuesday February 26, 2008. With a win, the mean would move onto the semi- finals held at Jamestown on Saturday March 1, 2008. The men split with Alfred State during the regular season. The men beat Alfred at home and recently lost on the road during a hard fought overtime game.

The Cougars have ended the regular season with an overall record of 12-15 (8-6 in the WNYAC and 9-10 in DII). The men started the season off with a GCC tip-off tournament championship and captured big home wins over Alfred State, Erie CC, and Monroe CC. The team’s biggest win came against Monroe CC at home with 93-83 victory, after losing to them twice earlier in the season.

The men have been led by an excellent core of players. Josh Henderson (Rochester, NY) averages 19.4ppg and 3.3apg. Reid Houston (Rochester, NY) has also been a huge asset to the team averaging a double-double with 10.8ppg and 11.8rpg. Also making big contributions this season have been Alex Makur (Toronto, Ont) with 17.3ppg, Boris Calhoun (Rochester, NY) with 16.4ppg, and Richard Westbrook (Rochester, NY) with 11.6ppg and 11.8rpg.
