The men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams look to make a strong appearance at the Region III Championships on Friday, February 15th.
The women are lead by Sarah Barr (Middleport, NY), who recently set a new GCC record in the 400 medley relay with a time of 1:04.19, breaking the old record of 1:04:55 which was set in 2001 by Pola Schadendorf. Barr is the No. 1 seed for three events; the 200 yard individual medley, the 100 yard backstroke, and the 200 yard backstroke. Sophomore captain Alissa Andrews (Mexico, NY) is seeded No. 6 in the 500 yard Freestyle, No. 2 in both the 400 yard individual medley and the 200 yard butterfly. Bobbie Jo Passamonte (Corfu, NY) will be seeded No. 1 in the 400 yard individual medley, No. 2 in the 1650 yard freestyle, as well as No. 3 in the 500 yard freestyle.
The men will be lead by two freshmen, Mark Sullivan and Chad Brooks on Friday. Sullivan is seeded No. 2 in the 400 yard individual medley, No. 4 in the 500 yard freestyle, and No. 6 in the 1650 yard freestyle. Brooks will be seeded No. 2 in the 100 yard backstroke, No. 2 in the 200 yard backstroke and No. 3 in the 200 yard individual medley.
The women’s team is expected to finish in the top four, while the men’s team expects to finish in the top eight.
