From Fitness to Physics, Microbiology to Movie Making-- Experience Genesee Offers Free 'Fun-Shops' for Everyone

From computer repair to cartooning, fashion to forensics, “Experience Genesee” has something for everyone. Scheduled for Thursday, February 28 from 5:00 to 8:00 PM at Genesee Community College’s Batavia Campus, “Experience Genesee” is a free evening of enjoyable learning, entertainment, refreshments, and a wealth of fun, yet informative short workshops in all corners of the College’s Main Campus.

“We are excited about turning a cold winter night into a warm evening full of activities, mini workshops, magic, and movement throughout the College,” Anne Garlock, a member of Genesee’s Board of Trustees who spearheaded the inaugural Experience Genesee. “There are so many dynamic things happening at the College each day, that we wanted to give the community the opportunity to enjoy a lively sample.”

In addition to a range of workshops on different topics, the gym and swimming pool will be open as part of the Kids Night Out program hosted by Genesee’s Baseball team; free child care for children under the age of five will be provided in Genesee’s Child Care Center; a CoolKids magic show for children starts at 6:15 PM in the Forum, and refreshments and an Information Faire will occur in the cafeteria. The Batavia Brass Society will perform as a pro-bono gift to the College in the Student Union, and the opening performance of the Forum Player’s Fairy Tale Courtroom starts at 7:30 PM. (Reserved seating is required by calling the Box Office at 345-6814.)

“This night is going to be one to remember,” Mrs. Garlock assured. “We are already talking about other activities to be added in year two!” In the event of a weather emergency, an Experience Genesee snow date has been set for March 6, 2008.
