The men and women’s basketball teams came away with two wins over Alfred State on Tuesday January 29, 2008.
Women 73 – Alfred State 53
The women’s team used its depth to beat Alfred State on Tuesday night. Bianca Jones (Long Island City, NY) led the team with her second straight double-double, 16 points and 12 rebounds. Cynnetha Bellinger (Binghamton, NY) had a noteworthy game at the point guard spot with 11 points, six rebounds, five assists, and four steals. Other key contributors were DeShanna Pierce (Utica, NY) with seven points and seven rebounds and Chatanie Williams (Rochester, NY) with seven points and 12 rebounds.
The Lady Cougars improve to 17-2 overall and 6-0 in the conference. Their next game is Super Bowl Sunday at the University of Rochester. The team will play UR’s JV squad at 4:30pm.
Men 88 – Alfred State 80
The men’s team improved to 4-4 in the conference with their 88-80 win over the Pioneers. Leading the men in scoring was Boris Calhoun (Rochester, NY) with 24 points (8-15 FG, 4-8 3FG). Alex Makur (Toronto, Ontario) netted 22 points and Josh Henderson (Rochester, NY) added 16 points, four assists, and four steals. Reid Houston (Rochester, NY) had an all-around impressive game with 11 points, ten rebounds, four assists, and six blocks. Also contributing to the Cougars victory was Richard Westbrook (Rochester, NY) with 17 rebounds.
The men improved to 2-0 on the week. They earned their other victory on Monday January 28, 2008 at Medialle College. The Cougars beat the JV squad 113-69.
The men play a conference game at Jamestown-Olean tonight at 7pm.
