First Genesee Student Graduates from the American Musical and Dramatic Academy in New York City

Jaime Arena is set to graduate from the American Musical and Dramatic Academy (AMDA) on February 2, 2008. For Jaime, this date marks the end of her studies and the beginning of a bright future in acting. For Genesee Community College, Jaime’s graduation is a milestone as well, since Jaime is the first to graduate of the six Genesee students who have gone on to study at AMDA in New York City.

AMDA, which is well-known for its challenging, performance-based curriculum, boasts such notable alumni as Tony Award-nominated actress Tyne Daly; Caissie Levy, who is starring as Elphaba in the LA production of Wicked; and Gretchen Mol, who recently starred in 3:10 to Yuma with Christian Bale and Russell Crowe.

Jaime began her career at Genesee after spending several years as a decorated Petty Officer in the US Navy. She enrolled at Genesee to pursue a career in acting, where she played several major roles including Dr. Livingston in the 2005 production of Agnes of God. Jaime transferred to AMDA upon completing her studies at Genesee, and has had several notable performances there as well, including a role in Saint Joan.

Upon graduation from AMDA, Jaime plans to become a professional actor. She is currently seeing agents and will audition for parts in movies, television, and theatre.

“Jaime’s graduation is a significant milestone for the theatre program at Genesee,” said Maryanne Arena, Jaime’s mother and Director of Fine and Performing Arts. “She is the first of many students who have followed their dreams and their talent to a promising career in theatre.”
