Swimmers and Divers Take Home Second and Third Place

The men and women’s swimming and diving teams traveled to SUNY Delhi on Saturday January 26, 2008 for a spring distance invitational.

The women’s team took home second place and had several top finishes. To begin the invitational, the 400 yard medley relay swam by Sarah Barr (Middleport, NY), Bobbie Jo Passamonte (Corfu, NY), Alissa Andrews (Mexico, NY), and Jenn Turner (Batavia, NY) placed first with a national qualifying time of 5:09.96.

Andrews finished with national qualifying times in the 400 yard individual medley, 100 yard free, and 500 yard free. Barr had three individual first place finishes in the following events: 400 yard individual medley, 100 yard free, and 500 yard free. Passamonte placed first in the 1650 yard free setting a pool record time (21:12.05). Passamonte also placed second in the 200 yard free and 200 yard back. Also, swimming well for GCC was Keli Bradt (Attica, NY) with a sixth place finish in the 200 yard free and tenth place finish in the 50 yard free.

Diver, Laura Trompeter (Irondequoit, NY), finished first with a score of 159.60.

The men’s team placed third at the invitational and several swimmers had personal bests. Chad Brooks (Albion, NY) set a GCC school record in the 400 yard individual medley with a time of 4:45.06. Brooks also placed first in the 100 yard free and second in the 500 yard, both with national qualifying times. Doug Nagowski (Alden, NY) had a third place finish in the 1650 yard free and eighth place finish in the 100 yard free. Mark Sullivan (Horseheads, NY) placed second in the 200 yard free, third in the 100 yard free, and third in the 500 yard free, all with national qualifying times.

The swimming and diving teams will travel to Monroe CC on Wednesday January 30, 2008 for a WNYAC meet that will begin at 5pm.
