Genesee Community College Seeks Nominations for Honorary Associate Degree Recipients

Last year the Genesee Community College Board of Trustees adopted guidelines and established criteria to award Honorary Associate Degrees. The first Honorary Associate Degrees were conferred during the College’s 40th Anniversary Convocation ceremony on May 3, 2007.

College officials are again looking for nominations to recognize individuals who have earned extraordinary business, professional, civic, and scholarly accomplishments; made extraordinary contributions to the life and growth of Genesee Community College; and/or who are notable leaders in academic disciplines taught at the College. Recipients of honorary degrees will be individuals whose accomplishments, contributions, or leadership are well beyond ordinary or expected standards.

“Genesee is very pleased to recognize the accomplishments of deserving individuals with an Honorary Associate Degree,” said Marcia Noonan, Chairman of the Board of Trustees. “Recipients serve as an inspiration to members of the college community and serve as role models for students and citizens of the region.”

Last year, three distinguished individuals received Honorary Associate Degrees: Dr. Alfred C. O’Connell, Genesee’s founding president; William W. Stuart, a long-serving member of the Genesee County Board of Supervisors who provided support for the College in the early years; and Neil T. Burns, a dynamic community leader who was one of the founding trustees of the College.
