Genesee Community College Announces December Student of the Month

Genesee Community College is pleased to name Alissa Andrews Student of the Month for December. Alissa, a graduate of Phoenix High School in Phoenix, NY, is an Occupational Therapy Assistant program major at Genesee. She is an outstanding student athlete, excelling both in the classroom and in the pool, where she is often found studying, swimming, or working.

Alissa’s experience on the swim team last season gained recognition as a CSCAA Swimming All-American and as Genesee’s leading point scorer in the national championship win. Alissa has shown exceptional leadership skills as this year’s team captain, helping to guide nine freshmen on the team and teach them the traditions of the team and the meaning of “cougar pride.” She has helped with swim clinics for local high schools and serves as a lifeguard, where she covers the Early Bird swim at Genesee every day as well as the noontime swim twice a week.

Alissa, the daughter of Dave and Beth Andrews, decided to attend Genesee Community College because the school offered both the Occupational Therapy Assistant program and a swimming program. She plans to work as an Occupational Therapy Assistant upon graduation, which will fulfill her goal of having a career where she can work with people.

“In addition to having the two programs that were important to me, Genesee has a very laid back atmosphere and there is always help available if you need it,” Alissa said.
