The No. 14 Lady Cougars Improve to 6-0

The Genesee women’s basketball team improved to 6-0 with an 83-54 win over Cuyahoga (OH) on Tuesday night. The Lady Cougars gained the lead early and held on for 40 minutes. The team out-rebounded Cuyahoga 76-44 with 43 offensive rebounds and 33 defensive rebounds. All thirteen players saw the floor for Genesee.

Leading the way for the Lady Cougars were captains, Latoya Anderson (Bronx, NY) and Quiana Holman (Bronx, NY). Anderson ended the game with 11 points and 4 rebounds while Holman led all scorers with 16 points, 4 for 6 from behind the arc and 6 for 8 from the field. First-year, Bianca Jones (Long Island City, NY), grabbed a game-high 16 rebounds and scored 9 points. Also chipping in for the Lady Cougars were Ariel Smith (Wallkill, NY) with 9 points and 3 assists, Kate Stresing (Elba, NY) with 7 points and 7 rebounds, and Chatanie Williams (Rochester, NY) with 7 points and 8 rebounds.

The Lady Cougars moved from No. 23 to No. 14 in the NJCAA polls, as of today. The team is nationally ranked No. 7 in team offensive average and No. 18 in team defensive average.

Genesee’s next home game is on Saturday December 1, 2007 at 4pm against University of Rochester’s junior varsity squad.
