Genesee Helps Host Live WBTA Broadcast to Support Salvation Army's Toys for Kids Drive

Genesee Community College is connecting with the community this holiday season by helping with the Salvation Army’s Toys for Kids Drive. In addition to collecting toys, canned goods, and monetary gifts on campus, Genesee officials will serve as “celebrity hosts” during a live WBTA 1490 broadcast scheduled for December 7 and 8 at Ken Barrett Chevrolet Cadillac .

The Toys for Kids Drive is an annual event which recently began inviting donors to visit Ken Barrett Chevrolet Cadillac while bringing gifts of new toys, canned goods, and monetary gifts. This year, the drive’s goal is to fill a new pick-up truck with the ingredients for a Merry Christmas that will be used to help less-fortunate families celebrate the holiday.

Several members of the Genesee Community College faculty and staff will be part of the Drive’s Call-In Pledge program this year, which features celebrity telephone operators speaking to radio listeners. The live remote broadcast highlights the opportunity for the community to assist the Salvation Army by donating goods for the Toys for Kids Drive.

Representatives from the College who will be part of the celebrity co-host line-up include Rick Ensman, Director of Development and External Affairs; Donna Rae Sutherland, Associate Director of Marketing Communications; and Robert Knipe, Dean of Learning Technology, who will be closing the remote broadcast on Friday, December 7, from 3:00-4:00 pm. Sarah Canfield, Instructor of Communications and Media at Genesee, along with several students, will open the broadcast Saturday morning, December 8, from 10:00-11:00 am.

“We are very excited about the opportunity to participate in this event,” said Ensman. “The College is pleased to help make the Salvation Army’s Appeal at Christmas a success.”

Toys and stocking stuffers for children, as well as winter clothing and canned goods, may be dropped off at Ken Barrett Chevrolet Cadillac or to the Marketing Communication Office (D110) of Genesee Community College. Financial gifts may be fulfilled by credit card, check, or money order payable to:
