GCC Swimmers Make a Splash in Buffalo

The GCC Men and Women’s Swimming and Diving Teams traveled to Buffalo yesterday to face Western Conference rival Erie Community College at the Flickinger Center. Both teams swam very well with the Women defeating ECC 87-27, while the Men lost to ECC 105-78.

Traveling back to the site of last year’s National Championship Meet, the defending Non-Scholarship Division Champions got the dual meet season started in a big way. The Lady Cougars were lead by Freshman Bobbie Jo Passamonte’s 3 First Place finishes. Passamonte (Pembroke) won the 1000 yd. Freestyle, the 500yd. Freestyle, and swam the Butterfly leg of the winning 400 yd. Medley Relay. Strong performances by divers Laura Trompeter (Irondequoit) 193.15 points and Lindsey DiMartino (Batavia) 184.15 points; gave GCC a 1st and 2nd place finish in 1 Meter Diving. Overall the Lady Cougars won 7 of 13 events.

The Men’s team had one of it’s strongest performances in many years. “This team is very young but showed that it will rise to the occasion and swim fast” said Coach Scott Hunsinger. The Cougars were lead by Freshman Mark Josh Sullivan (Horseheads); who won the 200 yd. IM and finished second in the 100 yd. Backstroke.

Both teams return to action on this Saturday at the Cobleskill Invitational.
