Encore 2007: A Celebration for Scholarship Support On December 5th

Tom and Michelle Turnbull of Batavia, chairs of this year’s Encore Celebration, announced that the annual holiday tradition is set for Wednesday, December 5, 2007 at 6:00 PM. The evening begins with a Gala Reception and continues with the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra (RPO) performing in the Stuart Steiner Theatre at Genesee Community College in Batavia, New York.

“We love this event and are pleased to be part of a festive evening featuring great music, great food, and friendship—all in the spirit of charity and supporting Genesee’s important scholarship program for students,” Mrs. Turnbull said. “It is always an enjoyable night.” Tom Turnbull is the publisher of the Batavia Daily News and his wife, Michelle, is a teacher at Genesee Valley BOCES.

In addition to the holiday pops performance by the RPO, this year’s pre-concert Gala Reception from 6:00 to 7:30 PM in the William W. Stuart Forum where guests will savor sensational servings from various gourmet food stations. After the RPO concert, guests will enjoy the coffee bar with “Sweet Sensations” including a selection of delectable desserts.

“Dizzy-Jazz with a Spin” features Derek Reiss on trumpet and flugelhorn, Dan DeLuca on guitar, Pete Mark on bass, and Bob Chaplin on drums. Reiss, a native of Batavia, was a trumpet player in the United States Air Force Band for nearly 24 years. He attended the Eastman School of Music Preparatory Department and continued his education at the Crane School of Music, State University of New York at Potsdam, earning a Bachelor’s degree in Music Education in 1975.

At 7:45 PM, the popular holiday pops concert with the RPO takes place in the Stuart Steiner Theatre. Since its founding by George Eastman in 1922, the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra has been committed to enriching and inspiring our community through the art of music. For more than 80 years, the RPO has been known for its high standard of artistic excellence, unique tradition of musical versatility, and deep commitment to education and community engagement. The evening’s performance is sure to include timeless carols and other holiday delights.

Proceeds are dedicated to the Genesee Community College Foundation. Sponsorship support is welcome at the following levels: Conductor’s Circle provides six tickets for $1,000; Golden Baton Society provides four tickets for $600; and the Inner Circle provides two tickets for $300. Last year, Genesee Community College Foundation awarded 511scholarships to worthy and deserving students, a collective amount of $286,000. Encore is the Foundation’s most important scholarship fund raising event.
