The Lady Cougars Win Two on the Road

The Genesee women’s basketball team went 2-0 at the Coaches vs Cancer tournament held at Mercyhurst Northeast (PA) on Saturday and Sunday. After the weekend, the team has an overall record of 4-0.

On Saturday November 10, the Lady Cougars defeated Lackawanna College (PA) 81-53. Genesee took the lead early on and held on throughout the entire game. Leading the way for the Lady Cougars were Chatanie Williams (Rochester, NY) with 19 points and 8 rebounds, Latoya Anderson (Bronx, NY) with 13 points and 5 steals, and Kate Stresing (Elba, NY) with 10 points and 6 rebounds.

On Sunday November 11, Genesee faced No. 13 nationally ranked Division II Harcum College (PA). The Lady Cougars were up by 16 points going into half-time. During the second half, the Harcum Lady Bears battled back and brought the score within one. The Lady Cougars responded in the last ten minutes of regulation and went on a 24-12 run to earn their fourth win of the season with a score of 81-70. Chatanie Williams was one of the key contributors during the team’s final run. Williams ended the game with a double-double (16 points, 18 rebounds). Quiana Holman (Bronx, NY) and Erica Austin (Utica, NY) were solid down the stretch. Holman netted 14 points and had 3 assists. Austin was steady at the point guard spot with 12 points and 5 rebounds. The team shot 42.1% from the field and out rebounded Harcum 56-36.

The Lady Cougars head to Fulton Montgomery CC in Johnstown, NY on Saturday November 17 for a 1:00 pm game. The men’s basketball team plays at 3:00 pm.
