GCC Teams Sweep CCRI to Win Championships

The women’s volleyball team began the CCRI sweep at 11am Sunday. They matched up against CCRI at their place and came out with a win after a three game match. This win gives the team a ticket to the National Championships (Scottsdale, AZ).

At 3pm, the women’s basketball team continued the sweep beating CCRI 70-67. The Lady Cougars came out victorious after a nail-biting regulation and overtime. The GCC Tip-Off tournament champions were led by tournament MVP, Latoya Anderson, with 18 points and 7 rebounds, and all-tournament selection, Chatanie Williams, with 11 points and 10 rebounds. Erica Austin was solid at the point guard spot with 12 points and Brittany McCray helped out on the boards with 12 rebounds.

At 5pm, the men’s basketball team finished the sweep with a 90-75 win over CCRI. The GCC Tip-Off tournament champions played a solid 40 minute game with six players scoring in double figures. The Cougars were led by tournament MVP, Josh Henderson, with 18 points and 4 steals, and all-tournament selection, Rastafari Brown, with 12 points and 13 rebounds. Aubrey Holmes led the team with 7 assists and he also netted 12 points. Other players who chipped in were second-year player, Phil Taylor, with 16 points, Panyon “Alex” Makur with 15 points, and Andrew Gould with 13 points.
