Genesee Community College Announces October Employee of the Month

Genesee Community College is pleased to announce that Joanna Barefoot has been named Employee of the Month for October 2007. Joanna has worked at Genesee for nearly four years and is currently the Acting Director of Student Activities, where her job duties include overseeing all clubs and organizations on campus; acting as advisor to student government and the student activities council; coordinating commencement, orientation, and the annual awards banquet; and running the student development series.

Before Joanna began working at the College she held a work-study position at Messiah College in Grantham, PA, working in the archival building of former SUNY Chancellor Ernest Boyer. After college she received an internship at Roberts Wesleyan College as a diversity consultant, which involved research and assessment of the presence of human diversity and diversity-related initiatives and resources on the campus. She began working as a Technical Assistant for Student Activities at Genesee in 2004.

Since assuming the additional responsibilities as Acting Director of Student Activities more than a year ago, Joanna has done a remarkable job. She has a strong work ethic and applies herself wholeheartedly to every task. Joanna, a resident of Le Roy, NY has a way of nurturing students and co-workers with commitment, energy, and intelligence and is often found going the extra mile on their behalf.

“As a college, Genesee is an ever-changing, exciting environment that’s full of activity and opportunities for people to get involved in, which I love,” Joanna said. “What I like most about it is the family feel of the college body. Everyone is very friendly and supportive, and seems to have a fun and easy-going, yet ambitious and hard-working mindset. It’s a wonderful community to be a part of.”
