Genesee Community College Hosts First Game at Dwyer Stadium

Genesee Community College will host its first men’s baseball game at Dwyer Stadium in Batavia on October 2 at 3:00 pm. The college recently signed a memorandum of understanding with the Batavia Muckdogs, members of the Class A New York-Pennsylvania League, who play their home games at Dwyer Stadium. The agreement will allow the men’s baseball team to play its home games at the stadium, beginning with the Western New York Athletic Conference championships on Tuesday.

The championship games will continue on Saturday, October 6th with two semifinal games at 11:00 AM, one at Dwyer Stadium and the other at Genesee Community College. The tournament concludes with the Championship game at 3:00 PM at Dwyer Stadium.

In addition to Genesee Community College’s men’s baseball team playing at Dwyer Stadium, the new agreement also provides a dynamic opportunity for students in many different programs of study to intern and work with cooperative academic agreements with the Batavia Muckdogs professional baseball team in areas such as sports management, merchandising, hospitality management, and media relations. Students enrolled in the new Web development program could also have a chance to intern at the stadium.

“We’re very happy to be hosting our first playoff game at Dwyer Stadium,” said Skip Sherman, head coach of the Genesee Cougars. “These players have worked hard this season and they are excited to play in a professional baseball stadium.”

Genesee’s games at either Dwyer Stadium or Genesee Community College are FREE of charge and open to the public. For more information contact Sherman at 585-343-0055 x6454.
