Lady Cougars Host Kaminna Allen Memorial Tournament

Friday and Saturday, September 28th and 29th, the Genesee Community College Women’s Volleyball team will host their annual Kaminna Allen Classic tournament. The tournament is held in honor of Allen, a 1997 Lady Cougar, who passed away suddenly of a heart disorder while playing in the tournament formerly known as the Cougar Classic. Head Coach Roger Majeski has also created a scholarship to be awarded each year to a player who embodies the enthusiasm and passion for the game that Kaminna displayed on the volleyball court. The winner of the Kaminna Allen scholarship for the 2007 season is freshman Jerrica McAndrew, from Ellicottville, New York. This year marks the tenth anniversary of the Kaminna Allen tournament for the Lady Cougars. In celebration, Majeski will host a recognition ceremony in which the Allen family, current players, and team alumni will commemorate this special occasion and announce the endowment of the Kaminna Allen scholarship award. Endowment allows scholarship funds to be sustained for years to come and creates permanency of the Kaminna Allen scholarship. The ceremony will be held at the Anthony T. Zambito gymnasium on the Batavia campus of Genesee Community College on Friday the 28th at 6:30.
The participating teams will be visiting from Michigan (St. Clair County Community College, Mott Community College), Rhode Island (Community College of Rhode Island), and Maryland (Hagerstown Community College, Howard Community College). Pool play is scheduled to begin at 3:00 PM on Friday afternoon; playoffs start at 3:00 PM on Saturday with finals played at 5:00 PM.
