Genesee Community College Awards First Medina Area Scholarships

Tyler Hemingway of Lyndonville and Shannyn Botsford of Medina are the first-ever recipients of Genesee Community College’s Medina Area Scholarship. This scholarship is designed to provide financial assistance to worthy and deserving students who reside in Medina or surrounding communities.

Each student received $1,000 based on recommendations from school counselors, registration at Genesee for Fall 2007, established financial need, and high school record – including GPA and involvement in activities such as student government, clubs, sports, or arts.

Tyler Hemingway is a graduate of Lyndonville High School. He served as class president and was involved in school plays. Tyler plans to take General Studies courses at the Batavia Campus and will be staying in College Village. A photograph of Tyler with Jim Simon, the new associate dean at the Medina Campus Center is available at:

Shannyn Botsford is a graduate of Medina High School. She will be studying Criminal Justice at the new Medina Campus Center as well as at the Albion Campus Center and the Batavia Campus beginning in Fall 2007. A photograph of Shannyn also with Jim Simon of the Medina Campus Center is available at:

“These talented graduates are well deserving of these scholarships,” said Jim Simon. “At our ground breaking ceremony recently, President Steiner announced the establishment of the Medina Area Scholarship and his vision to have no one seeking higher education left behind due to financial strain – this is a great step in that direction.”
