Education Day with Leadership Wyoming Starts at Genesee Community College's

The new Leadership Wyoming program sponsored by Wyoming County Chamber of Commerce will begin its Education Day on Thursday, May 24, 2007 at the Warsaw Campus Center of Genesee Community College located at 115 Linwood Avenue in Warsaw. The group’s first stop in their day-long program dedicated to education will begin at 8:00 AM.

In support of Education Day, a number of other key speakers will touch on the various aspects of higher education. Tanya Lane Martin, a resident of Warsaw, will touch on how education can help all kinds of people at many different stages of their lives. Tanya not only teaches Human Relations as an adjunct faculty member at the Warsaw Campus Center, but she also directs the College’s Admissions Department where students of all ages and with all kinds of unique needs pass through her area.

Another topic of conversation will be the technological advancements in teaching and learning, and how both instructors and students are adopting new ways to exchange information. Recent funding secured by Assemblyman Burling allowed Genesee Community College Campus Centers in both Warsaw and Arcade to purchase a data projector and laptop. A demonstration and tour of a “Smart” classroom with Harold Strassner, Genesee’s Senior Academic Computing Consultant will illustrate how technology is enabling the learning process.

Genesee Community College’s associate deans, Patty Chaya from the Warsaw Campus Center and Dr. Deborah DiNoto from the Arcade Campus Center, will also highlight Genesee Community College’s multiple postsecondary degree opportunities that lead to great careers and/or transfer degrees.

The Leadership Wyoming program is designed to help improve the social, business, and economic climate in Wyoming County. It encourages participants to work individually and collectively to solve community problems by looking at the systems, not just the problems. The program will open significant and extensive dialogue between existing and emerging leaders to continue to develop a strong, successful, and vibrant future for Wyoming County.
