Genesee Community College Continues Commitment to the Performing Arts

Genesee Community College continues its commitment to the performing arts with the third annual Summer Youth Theatre Camp this summer. The three-week program is targeted for children ages 9-13 and runs Monday through Friday, July 9-27 from 10:00 AM to 3:00 PM.

The program was developed and continues to be coordinated by Maryanne Arena, Director of Genesee Community College’s Fine and Performing Arts program. Summer Youth Theatre Camp includes fun yet informative lessons in acting, voice, movement, dance, improvisations, audition techniques, and acting for the camera. The program will culminate with theatre campers giving a live, on-stage performance of Alice in Wonderland on the final day of the program. The show will be open to the public.

“We’ve had such a great response to this program throughout the community,” Maryanne Arena said. “The students enjoy themselves and learn a great deal about theatre in the process. Even if they don’t go on to become famous actors and actresses, it gives them something productive and fun to do during the summer.”

The three-week program costs $150.00. Light snacks and refreshments will be provided, but participants must bring their own lunches. The registration deadline is June 1, 2007. Contact the Arts Center Office at (585) 343-0055 x6438 or Maryanne Arena at x6439 for questions and registration forms.

Genesee Community College’s ongoing arts awareness and involvement was recently recognized by the Genesee-Orleans Regional Arts Council. The College was presented with a certificate in recognition of its 40th anniversary at the Arts Council’s Awards Gala on April 21, 2007.
