Genesee Community College Announces April Employee of the Month

Genesee Community College is pleased to announce that Lori Burns has been named Employee of the Month for April. Lori has worked part-time in College Services for twelve years, covering all areas of operation including the mailroom, switchboard, shipping and receiving, and even the copy center.

Before Lori started working at the College she worked ten years at Carr’s Department Store, first as a sales clerk and then as a buyer for the Misses department. She and her husband, Doug, have been married for 27 years. Their son Phillip, and his wife, Sara, have a one-year-old daughter, Aubrey.

Lori’s twelve years at the College have seen many changes, including the addition of the Conable Technology Building and the new Student Union. “When I deliver mail in the Union I slow down and take my time, I love walking through it,” Lori said. “It’s a beautiful view outside. I know that the employees enjoy it just as much as the students.”

In fact, interacting with the students is one of Lori’s favorite aspects of working at the College. “I have the type of job that allows me to get out into the College, which I enjoy,” she said. “I’m able to get to know and meet so many people. It really is a great place to work.”
