Genesee Community College Announces March Student of the Month

Genesee Community College is pleased to announce that Tracy Wangelin has been named Student of the Month for March. Tracy is an education major and a member of the Women’s Basketball Team who shows an extraordinary level of dedication to both her studies and her teammates.

A team captain, Tracy serves as an outstanding role model both on the court and off, where she maintains an excellent academic record. She can often be found helping her teammates, either tutoring them or simply lending an ear. Her leadership has played a role in the team’s success this season, as the team participated in the national championship tournament.

Tracy plans to transfer to a four year institution when she completes her studies at Genesee Community College this fall, where she hopes to continue her American Sign Language studies in addition to her education degree. She sees her fluency in ASL as a positive attribute for a teacher, giving her the ability to communicate directly with hearing-impaired students. Tracy also plans to continue playing basketball and is looking to receive a basketball scholarship. She hopes to coach at the college level in the future.

Tracy, a native of Olean, NY, has had a positive experience at Genesee Community College. “My favorite thing is the small, family-like atmosphere,” she said. “Everyone has treated me so well, and given me unlimited help. Genesee Community College made the transition from high school to college, and being away from home for the first time, much easier. I wish Genesee Community College was a 4-year college!”
