Genesee Division of Genesee Community College Foundation's Campaign Supports Students

Ben and Kara Mancuso of Batavia, co-chairs of the Genesee Division of the Genesee Community College Foundation campaign, announced at a recent meeting that the Genesee Division of the annual campaign is underway with the goal of raising $47,500 to support student scholarships.

“Attracting and retaining students at the College is so important to the economic well-being of our community,” said Mr. Mancuso. He said the theme, Genesee at 40, not only celebrates the founding of the College forty years ago, but looks ahead to where we will be forty years from now. “Kara and I are involved because we firmly believe that we and all community members can positively influence the years to come by our actions today. The College attracts excellent students with full tuition scholarships that are intended to raise the reputation of the College and stimulate classroom interactions. But, other times a small award of two or three hundred dollars can make the difference in a student remaining enrolled.”

He added that the campaign reflects the desire to support the College through attracting and retaining students and training our local workforce in needed skills and expertise. No student who has the ability and the desire to obtain a higher education should be turned away due to lack of funds. As a community we can support our worthy and deserving students, who are our future.

For the past academic year 1,813 residents of Genesee County attended the College either full or part-time. Many are receiving degrees and transferring to four year institutions, but statistics show that students who begin their college careers at community colleges tend to stay in that region. Many others are receiving their Associates Degrees and entering the work force with skills in business, marketing, criminal justice, technology, and health care. There are now over 17,000 graduates of the College and many have stayed and worked in our communities. “Students are the focus of our campaign,” Mancuso said. “It is very encouraging to have students confident that they will reach their goals with the strong support of community members.”

Genesee Division campaign leaders include:
• Thomas Dambra of LeRoy, Vice-president of Community Banking, The Bank of Castile
