Genesee Women's Basketball Advances to the National Tournament

On Sunday March 4, 2007 the second seeded Lady Cougars of Genesee competed in the Championship game of the Region III Division II Tournament against the number one seeded Jamestown Community College. The Lady Cougars took off to a great start and were dominating the first half as they led at half time by 15 points. As the game progressed; Genesee continued to play to their highest level as they went on to win the regional tournament with a score of 65-44. Genesee was led by the exceptional play of Pricilla Ramirez; who was named the Most Valuable Player of the regional tournament, Tracy Wangelin and Khadija Campbell who were both 1st team all tournament selections and Ariel Smith who was named to the 2nd team all tournament.

The awards for the Lady Cougars were ongoing this past weekend as they also had three athletes named to the Region III Division II All Region Team. Pricilla Ramirez was named the Player of the Year for Region III Division II. Khadija Campbell was named to the second team and Tracy Wangelin was named honorable mention. The Lady Cougars of Genesee are now scheduled to compete in the national tournament in Phoenix, Arizona on March 14th – 17th.
