Language Lab at Genesee Community College Presents Annual Foreign Film Festival

The Language Lab at Genesee Community College is again holding a Foreign Film Festival for Spring 2007. The films will be shown in Room A312 at 1:30 PM on Fridays, and on Saturdays at 3:00 PM in the Student Union. All films are free and open to the public. The foreign language films are subtitled in English and the festival schedule is outlined below (subject to change):

• February 23 & 24 - Frida (2002) starring Salma Hayek and Ashley Judd. Shown in English. A biography of artist Frida Kahlo, who channeled the pain of a crippling injury and her tempestuous marriage into her work.
• March 23 & 24 – Après-Vous (2003) starring Daniel Auteuil and Jose Garcia. Shown in French. Antoine saves Louis from hanging himself, though in his attempt to get Louis back on his feet, Antoine gets caught in a romantic triangle.
• March 30 & 31 – In the Time of the Butterflies (2001) starring Salma Hayek and Marc Anthony. Shown in Spanish. Inspired by the true story of the three Mirabal sisters who, in 1960, were murdered for their part in an underground plot to overthrow the government.
• April 20 & 21 – L’Auberge Espagnole (2002) starring Romain Duris and Judith Godreche. Shown in French. A straight laced French student moves into an apartment in Barcelona with a cast of six other characters from all over Europe. Together they speak the international language of love and friendship.
• April 27 & 28 – Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown (1988) starring Carmen Maura and Antonio Banderas. Shown in Spanish. A woman’s lover leaves her and she tries to contact him to find out why he’s left.

The Genesee Community College Language Lab offers increased opportunities for learning and student success, and looks to educate the community about cultures outside of the United States.
